Heartless merupakan karya standalone dari Marissa Meyer setelah ia merampungkan seri Cinder (yang buku pertamanya busuk tapi sekuelnya BRILIAN). Sebagai salah satu pembaca fanatik Marissa Meyer, saya beruntung bisa membaca Heartless segera setelah terbitnya novel ini. Baru sempat buat reviewnya sekarang aja sih hehehe. Di Indonesia sendiri Heartless belum diterjemahkan ya, jadi silahkan bersabar dulu sambil baca review singkat saya yang bebas spoiler ini.

Cinder adalah buku pilihan untuk #bookishpinoysreadalong bulan November dengan tema fairytale retelling (yep, Cinder....ella). Cukup sedih karena saya tidak bisa tepat waktu mengikuti jadwal yang sudah ditentukan, dan hingga kemarin penutupan readalong, saya masih belum bisa tamat ha! Jadi saya putuskan untuk membuat review apa adanya saja.

Menurut saya, teknik penulisannya tidak rapi dan terkesan seperti didikte. Tidak ada keseimbangan dan harmoni antara narasi dengan dialog, tidak ada plot twist yang membuat penasaran, serta deskripsi/ penggambaran settingnya sangat lemah dan tidak menggugah imajinasi. Puncaknya, sebagai tokoh utama, Cinder membosankan (yang artinya saya harus merasa bosan selama setiap detik saya habiskan untuk membaca buku ini).

Saya memutuskan untuk menyerah tepat di bab 17. Peony, adik tiri kesayangan Cinder terjangkit wabah letumosis parah dan akan memasuki stadium akhir. Ibaratnya sih tinggal menunggu hari saja, soalnya obatnya belum ditemukan. Tapi prioritas tetep prioritas, yes?

Really? REALLY???????

I need a break. I’ll pick this book again when I care.
